Here’s some additional reading to keep you informed:
The Delay of Obamacare
The Department of Health and Human Services announced that those waiting in line to register for open enrollment on the healthcare.gov website will be able to sign up after Monday’s March 31st deadline — a “hard deadline” that the department set back in October of 2013.
Republicans have characterized this as another delay in a process with already 28 delays or executive re-writes. Democrats have characterized it as similar to allowing those in line before the voting booth closes being permitted to vote. Keep in mind that the dates of open enrollment are to be set by the Director of Health and Human Services, so this isn’t an impermissble “revision”, it’s just inconsistent with the previous rhetoric.
Hobby Lobby vs. Sebelius
The United States Supreme Court heard oral argument this week on whether the Religious Freedom Restoration Act applies to corporations, and whether that can be a justifiable basis for for-profit private corporations to refuse to finance healthcare plans that support certain types of contraceptive care. We will discuss the legal and political ramifications of the case.
Putin v. Obama, the Saga Continues
Last week, President Obama announced sanctions against Russia in retaliation for Russia’s occupation of the Ukraine’s Crimea region. Since, those sanctions have escalated some and the President calls on Russia to withdraw its troops. This is essentially a cold war stalemate staying cold; and, CNN is reporting that Putin has contacted President Obama to try and resolve their issues. We will discuss the continuing conflict accordingly.
