Veronica Brinson, a local Macon attorney, was removed from representing Mr. Frank Reeves in his murder case by the presiding Judge, Honorable Judge Howard Simms, for providing “defacto ineffective” representation.
She claimed to media outlets following this decision that she felt it was retaliation for filing a motion to recuse Judge Simms on the grounds that Reeves’ son, Frank Dixon, was a “community organizer” whom adamantly opposed Judge Simms.
Such allegations are tenuous at best, and do not create the kind of conflict which would properly remove a Judge from a case. In order to protect the integrity of the Court and to articulate his concerns about Ms. Brinson’s representation of Mr. Reeves, as the Judge indicates in his order, he includes a telling transcript from an in-chambers hearing regarding the removal of Ms. Brinson, as well as documents filed in various courts which display a “modus operendi” of “intimidating the court and opposing counsel” with “frivolous motions” which are “irrelevant” under the law.
Most local media outlets have reported on the removal, and many prior clients in turn have responded passionately about their dissatisfaction with Ms. Brinson’s representation via social media.
The Order from Judge Simms is a fantastic read, so I’ve included it in its entirety below. It is a scathing review of an attorney’s practice. I felt the world deserved to see the Court record, and so here it is, in all its glory.
