Here’s a breakdown of each of the performances as I saw them, as well as the individual feeds from each of the artists performances.
A festival of this magnitude requires that everyone be a bit magnanimous. The live broadcasts started on time, but some of the artists ran a little behind. Don’t hold it against them or Bragg Jam, just skip ahead a bit for some great tunes. All of these were engineered by Joe Sanchez, who was a champion at our stage.
Elhae started off the night with some of the quickest, wittiest, and elaborate rapping I’ve ever seen live. His stage presence was incredible and the crowd was wild. JuBee Webb, lead singer of JuBee and the Morning After, made a cameo appearance during Elhae’s set debuting new material that he has dubbed “Uncle Pizza.” Elhae and his DJ then took to their set again, and crushed it to closing.
Sixteen Bar Hip Hop Orchestra, featuring the MC skills of MC Sub Zero took the stage next with a great group of backing musicians and singers. Our first full band ensemble for the evening featured an incredibly jazzy guitarist, keyboardists, drums, background singers, and spot on replications of some of my favorite old school hip hop tunes and some seriously well-written original compositions. Great energy the whole way through.
Macon native, and “kind of a big deal” (his words, not mine, he’s most certainly a big deal in my book)Floco Torres, debuted an incredible new live show at this year’s Bragg Jam. Formerly a guitarist, Sean Williamson of Floco’s band instead was rocking an awesomely complicated keyboard/multi-instrumentalist/auxillary percussionist/crazy-noise-maker-do-dah-machines setup that had my gear jowls drooling. These guys were firing on all cylinders as if we were listening to the CD directly. a fantastic performance all around.
Noot ‘D Noot closed out the night at our stage with the funkiest party ever. These guys are great friends of mine: one of my favorite bands from my days in the big-A. The night was ablaze and Macon became THE jiggle city as these guys rocked for over an hour.
