Killer Mike, one of my favorite rap musicians, had a very compelling interview about his thoughts on the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO on CNN today. The reason why I post this is not to inundate you with a whole lot of content on the death of Mr. Brown, but because it is a varying position from one that I feel like has been presented by the mainstream coverage, and one that is still in line with my views on the subject as a whole.
I’ve already made it clear that the militarization of local law enforcement is a huge problem in this country. Rand Paul, for better or for worse, agrees with me on that point. Killer Mike takes the logic of a call for demilitarization to the next logical step, all while continuing to not give substantive credence to any racial component to the situation in Ferguson. Quoting from the clip below, Michael “Killer Mike” Render lays it out like this:
“Whatever this country is willing to do to the least of us, it will one day do to us all.”
While there is a conversation to be had about whom is the least of us, and certainly young black males are dealt a tough hand in modern America, but every conservative from sea to shining sea should see the situation in Ferguson as one to be afraid of.
This is a prime example of a tyrannical government resorting to violence against citizens in what it believes is a just war. All Americans need to wake up, before the way the government and police treat these young black males becomes the way it treats the entirety of the population. I think the first step is to protect those minorities whom are under constant threat from law enforcement, then change police policies and procedure to ensure the status quo does not spread and make things worse.
