On this May 17, 2016 episode of Dorer Daily, I talk about how on this day in 1994 Malawi had its first multi-party election! But, that’s just a way to keep with the theme of the show referencing a day in history, or is it?
A common refrain in Today’s American politics is “the two-party system is broken” or “we need a third party” or what have you. This election cycle is no different. Between Mitt Romney, Kasich and Sasse pushing for a third party run against Trump in 2016, all the way back to the Bull-Moose Party of 1912 and back again, a “this system is broken” mantra has been a battle cry of belabored voters in a cumbersome election season.
But, as I explain on the show, this is not a “problem”, it’s a symptom of a problem, and invariably the problem is us. Duverger’s Law reigns supreme, and we talk about it, and we even pronounce it correctly! Tune in at about 6:30 PM EDT.
